Tips for Cable Knitting
Choose
a yarn that produces high stitch definition.
2.
The rule of thumb for simple rope cables is to turn the cables at the
row number equal to the stitch number in the cable. For example, a six
stitch rope cable: 3 stitches crossing over 3 stitches would be turned every
6th row.
3.
For cabling without a cable needle, choose needles that have good
points and are not too slippery.
4.
To cure the loose knit stitch which often appears on the left side of
the cable, tighten the second purl stitch after the knit stitch on the right
side. On the wrong side, tighten the first purl stitch in each cable panel.
5.
Cables draw in the fabric half the number of crossed stitches. To
prevent flares at the bottom and top of the cable and to compensate for the
draw of the cable, try the following.
a.
At the base of the cable panel, increase the same number of stitches
that will be crossed.
b.
At the top/end of the cable panel, reduce the number of stitches
increased at the base.
